Sweetness: Dry
Grapes: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot
Grape info: Cabernet Sauvignon’s deep colour, high acidity and high tannin can make for extremely age-worthy wines capable of lasting decades. Its unusually aromatic profile and affinity with oak give it a world-renowned complexity that has formed the basis for some of the world’s finest and most famous wines. Merlot’s soft, attractive fruitiness makes it an ideal blending partner, adding flesh to C’s bones and a counterpoint to its heavy tannins. Cabernet Franc adds aromatics while Petit Verdot offers colour, structure and weight.
About: Meerlust Estate, steeped in heritage since 1756, is renowned for producing world-class wines. Guided by Hannes Myburgh, the 8th generation custodian, the estate continues its dedication to winemaking excellence.
Each parcel of each variety was fermented separately before undergoing malolactic fermentation in 300L barrels and large foudré. After 8 months in oak, the components were blended and given another 8 months in barrel for harmonization before bottling.
Tasting note: Youthful colour, deep and dense with garnet red hue. Red fruit and warm spice on the nose with some supporting oak notes. Still young and intense, the palate is full-bodied, structured but packed with fresh red fruit and soft rounded tannins.
Character: Strawberry, vanilla, baking spices.
