Grape info: A native of the island of Santorini and now Greece’s third most planted white variety, Assyrtiko’s ability to retain freshness and acidity have seen it planted all over the country. Full-bodied, zesty and mineral, planted in Attikí the wines gain a more pronounced fruity dimension of passion fruit and lime.
About: Domaine Papagiannakos was established in 1919 in the heart of the plain of Attikí. Third generation winemaker, Vassilis Papagiannakos owns ten hectares of vineyards and maintains long-term leases on a further twenty hectares of low yielding, bush vines with an average age of 50-60 years. The Papagiannakos family continues its traditions whilst bringing the winery into the 21st Century with a stunning and innovative bioclimatic winery.
The wine undergoes no oak ageing; it's fermented and matured in stainless steel at a controlled temperatures with some time spent on fine lees. Maturation in bottle for up to a year.
Tasting note: Fresh floral aromas of citrus, white blossom, mandarin and lime. Further citrus characters on the textured, mineral palate with a refreshing saline acidity. A zesty, crisp and characterful white with potential to age.
