Tyrrell's Old Winery Pinot Noir

Contents

Sweetness: Dry

Grape: Pinot Noir

Grape info: Few grapes can match Pinot Noir’s almost mythical ability to communicate terroir. Although its sensitivity makes it challenging to grow, it is the very thing that makes it capable of almost unrivalled nuance. For many, the best Pinot Noirs represent a summit of what is achievable in wine.

About: The Tyrrell family’sassociation with the grape began with Edward Tyrrell in 1858. Today his legacy lives on through the fourth and fifth generation of the family who collectively manage one of Australia’s oldest and most highly regarded wineries. Tyrrell’s has grown over a century and a half to become one of Australia’s most prestigious winemakers.

A blend of Pinot Noir fruit from some of the best red growing regions in the country. The majority of the fruit was machine harvested, after which the fruit was fermented in a combination of traditional hand plunged open vats and larger potter tanks. Maturation was then carried out in predominantly French oak casks for 12 months prior to bottling.

Tasting note: A classic Pinot Noir bouquet of bright, enticing cherry and strawberry aromas layered over an undertone of mushrooms and forest floor. The palate is long and concentrated, with rich, sweet fruit, subtle hints of savoury oak and smooth tannins.

Character: Cherry, strawberry, spice
