Grape info: Most famous for its role in the Piedmontese DOCs of Gavi and Cortese di Gavi, Cortese makes typically restrained whites with a keen acidity and mellow aromatic character.
About: Now third-generation winemakers, the Lanzavecchia family have been making wine in the Seralunga d’Alba for over fifty years. A few kilometres away in Gavi, the Cortese grape reaches the summit of its potential in the commune’s eponymous wines.
Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in stainless-steel tanks without skin contact at low temperatures, highlighting Cortese’s natural aromatics.
Tasting note: A nose of hawthorn, red apples and citrus. Pleasantly crisp in the mouth with a balanced, marine acidity and hints of almonds on the finish.
