Sweetness: Dry
Grape: Sauvignon Blanc
Grape info: Though indigenous to France, Sauvignon’s unique aromatic profile has seen it successfully transplanted all over the world to become the third most cultivated variety, behind only Chardonnay and Airén. Its enduring popularity is down to its distinctive, multi-layered combination of youthful, ‘green’ flavours matched with a keen acidity, capable of producing wines of real substance.
About: Nautilus purchased the Lanark Lane vineyard, 12 hectares of established Sauvignon Blanc, in 2008. Leafy, tree lined Lanark Lane runs from Marlborough’s West Coast Road down to a precious vineyard, planted exclusively in Sauvignon Blanc. This site is situated further upstream in the gravely Wairau Valley on a terrace above the main fault line.
Tasting notes: An intense nose of gooseberry, passionfruit and cut grass. Citrus and tropical fruit dominate the clean, refreshing palate showing a characteristic intensity and keen acidity.
Character: Passion fruit, gooseberry, cut grass
