Opawa Pinot Noir

Sweetness: Dry
Grape: Pinot Noir
Grape info: Few grapes can match Pinot Noir’s almost mythical ability to communicate terroir. Although its sensitivity makes it challenging to grow, it is the very thing that makes it capable of almost unrivalled nuance. For many, the best Pinot Noirs represent a summit of what is achievable in wine.
About: Meaning "smoky river” in Maori, Opawa is a vineyard located on the old riverbed of the historic Opawa River in Marlborough. The stony river gravels absorb the sun’s warmth during the day, radiating it back onto the grapes at night, evolving the delicious aromas and flavours in these wines. Our grapes are picked in the cool of night, under the moonlight, to ensure these pristine flavours are perfectly preserved in our wines.
After a cold soak and fermentation using native yeasts, the wine was pressed into French oak barriques for maturation, prior to bottling.
Tasting notes: The nose shows attractive notes of ripe plums and wild strawberries with a hint of cloves and spice. The palate displays supple red fruit flavours and soft, fine tannins. This wine has an elegant structure, silky texture and juicy acidity to give freshness, and it closes in a lingering finish.
Character: Plum, strawberry, clove
